Fit Check 2/20/18

Standard

G’morning all!! Here is another fit check update. When coming out of the winter season it can be especially hard to trim the pounds off. You’ve got used to eating for winter sustainability and to convert over to eating different for the warmer months is hard. Especially when it is still dreary, cold, and rainy. Well, I am getting back into the swing of things and have started eating less starchy foods (breads, pastas…etc) and getting back to eating more fresh foods (fresh fruits and vegetables). I do eat fruits and vegetables in the winter but they really are not as appealing as the heavier foods. As it warms up, I will be able to get out more again and actually go hiking and trailing. I’ll be able to get out on my bike and ride around with my kids in the fresh air too. Here’s to spring…glad you are just around the corner 🙂

I know I said last week I’d give an update about my wrist, so here it is. Apparently there are no nerve issues (yay) but then what is causing the pain? I have an appointment this Thursday to discuss that with my Dr. We’ll find out more info at that point.

Week 36…Outside life!!!

Standard

It is an amazing feeling when you get up in the morning and everything is new and fresh. The sun is up and the possibilities are endless. That is what I felt last week and going into this week. I know I am going to get this. I will be where I need to be.

As I said last week we’ve been doing more regarding outdoors. With the weather the way it is now, still cool but warm enough to enjoy, we got out last weekend on one of the local trails, Rainbow Mountain. You could see all the plants starting to come out of hibernation and all the early bloomers come out 🙂  Yes it is definitely spring!! I can honestly say when I started this, I probably could not have done what I did this past weekend. I am glad I have started this!!

Week 35…Spring!!

Standard

I love it when the weather is like this. I wish it would stay this way year round…but I know it won’t. So I enjoy it while I can. In my journey here, I have rediscovered how much I love being on the trails and enjoying nature. I am so glad I can share that with my kids as well. This time of the year it makes it all that much more fun because you can get out and see everything “waking up”. It makes exercising so much easier. That being said…I have not lost weight this week. But I have lost an inch off of my waist. So I am still going in the right direction…but not as quickly as I would like to. I just have to remember to stick to it and it will come.

Ahhh…first day of Spring!!!

Standard

Finally!!! It’s spring!!! It is a wonderful feeling to hear the birds sing and the temperatures change. It’s time to get out and do things that have been put off since it started to get cold. I love spring and all the fresh new changes it brings.

With spring comes a special time of year for my family…Norouz or the Iranian New Year!! Here is a very basic definition as well as some history from Wiki if any of you would like some info about it. As of 11:30 pm cst it is officially the Iranian New Year!! I hope each of you will have a bright healthy spring and a wonderful year.

There is a lot of history for this as you can read about in the above Wiki article but what it means for me is time spent with family and friends. We get talk about all that has happened in the last year and hear stories of years past. We get be around those who mean so much to us and enjoy delicious amazing foods like:

Aash Reshteh

Sabzi Polo Mahi

Kookoo Sabzi

As well as all sorts of other goodies that actually are not good for you but what can I say they are so good 🙂

We also set up a table with what is called Haft Seen:

DSC07813

right to left clockwise

  1. Sabzi (green) – symbolizing rebirth
  2. Sekkeh (coins) – symbolizing wealth
  3. Seeb (apples) – symbolizing beauty and love
  4. Serkeh (vinegar) – symbolizing development and evolution.
  5. Somagh (sumac) – symbolizing patience
  6. Seer (garlic)- symbolizing the medicine and health
  7. Saa’at  (clock) – symbolizing patience

These are all placed on a sofra along with a Holy Book and/or a book of poetry either by the Divan Hafez or Shahnameh. The one I have included has very special meaning for me. My husband gave it to me before we were married (yeah he’s an old romantic at heart 🙂 ). There are other things that are included as is seen above but can vary from person to person. These are a few things that are part of it but there are a lot more to this and like all holidays it is meant to be enjoyed!! I hope it will be an amazing fresh start for everyone.

All this aside, it means a fresh start to me. It means a chance to kick off all the dust of the past and start new. I intend to enjoy every moment. I intend to enjoy spring as it is meant to be. I hope you each have an amazing spring with all sorts of new possibilities 😀

Week 34….Spring YAY!!

Standard

This week I have got out while it has not been raining and actually started walking outside again. I love it this time of year because it still is cool but not so cool that you need a coat. I love the sunshine on my face and the cool breeze as I am walking. Ahhh….I love spring 🙂

Well not much has changed since last week, but at least that means I have not gained anything either. I know I feel tons better and will continue no matter what. If Ian just get those numbers to move it will be great. That will come….I can wait 🙂
