Fit Challenge Week 20…some good things…

Standard

Sorry about the lateness of this post…between the kids and Hubby I have no idea where the week went. I guess a can start out with a couple of good things in my journey…I put on a pair of jeans today that I have not put on since 2010!! What an amazing feeling that was!! It still was a bit snug but you know what…I was able to button them and zip them up…lol!!!! My husband laughed with me about it and was so happy I was feeling good about it all! The second thing is whereas I did not lose weight this week I noticed how my legs are toning back up and looking a lot slimmer then they have in a long time. I am so glad for that. I’m looking forward to winter because I will be able to wear my knee boots again…yay!!! So overall I think this was a good week. I did see some results even though it was not where I wanted…I will definitely take them because I know it is just a matter of time that it will all change 🙂

Fit Challenge Week 18 and Old Habits

Standard

You know the old saying….”old habits follow you” or maybe “old habits are hard to break” or maybe “old habits die hard”? It is true. I am on a journey where I am finding out just how many habits I have developed and not all are good ones. Actually, most of them are not good ones. When you get into a habit of doing something, it is really hard to change. That can be anything from various addictions all the way to working yourself into the ground. For me it is/was two things…looking for that quick meal/snack and working too much. Some of you will say the first is worst then the latter but I will tell you they are both just as damaging as the other.

When you get into the habit of grabbing the first thing in your fridge, whether it be a good food or bad food, you get into a habit of eating more then you should. And no matter if it is good for you or not you are still eating too much. Does this mean you cannot have a quick snack in between meals? No what it means is that you have to be careful not to overeat. It is just as easy to overeat healthy foods as it is to eat junk foods. I’m guilty of that. I love fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. I can sit down an eat until nothing is left. Does that mean I do? No it means I learn to portion out everything…now that is. I am learning to control that habit because it did get to the point even though they are good for me I could not stop eating them.

My second bad habit  is overworking myself. I have a tendency to do until I am utterly exhausted. I don’t mean just at my job but also in my home life. It will get to the point that I have to stop because if I don’t then for a couple days I am not able to do anything. Does this mean I don’t have a clean home? No. Does this mean I can’t keep a job? No. Does this mean I can’t help my kids and husband? No. What it means is that I have to find a healthy balance between them. And to be honest I think learning to maintain my eating is easier then finding the balance in my work life….lol.

Life is about balance and breaking bad habits…I’m still working on that 🙂

Fit Challenge Week 16

Standard

Well after the high I was on last week came crashing down, I sort of overindulged. I realize that even though I hit my goal unless I stick to it, it will come back very quick. As I had said in previous posts this weekend was my anniversary and hubby took me out to dinner. I didn’t eat badly, I just over ate. Then on Sunday we went out on a 5 mile hike which was great. We all had a blast!! But when we had lunch I went back to my old habits. So needless to say, I did not do well over the weekend. But you know what, it happens. You cannot change overnight. You will have slip ups and not achieve what you want sometimes. You can make all the excuses, but what you do after that is what makes you successful. You have to pick up the pieces and go again.

Fit Challenge Week 13 and 14

Standard

Ok I have been a bad blogger…lol!! I know I have not been keeping you updated like I should on my progress. But I have some great news…I am at 174!!! I am so happy!! It seems like it took forever to get here but you know what? I did it!! and now I will keep going for the rest of it. I think I am actually going to reach my monthly goal this time. We will find out next week definitely!!

I feel so much better and even my son is actually wanting to get up and start doing more. It looks like it is trickling down. I am so glad because I don’t want him to become obese with all the health issues attached to it. Yesterday, he actually found out how much he was actually eating when he started looking at  the serving sizes. He had no clue. When he saw that, he looked at me and said, ‘No wonder the majority of people are overweight. They have no idea how much they are eating.’ He’s only 13 and if a 13 year old can see that…why can’t we? Maybe by me doing this for myself I am helping my children to actually learn what is good and what is not. Maybe I can do my part in helping change the track of obesity.

Right now though, I am focused on me and my family. Everyone else needs to decide for themselves what they can do and what is good for them. You have to make the choice. No one else can.

Fit Challenge Week 8

Standard

Here’s to week 8!!! As I said last week, I started some light weight lifting. All I can say is ouch!! I did not realize how far I had let myself go. After the first day I started doing it I was so sore I could not even think straight. At first I thought I had hurt myself, but after the 3rd day most of the soreness went away. I made sure I drank plenty of water while doing this and made sure I did not push my muscles to far over what I could do. I know I will build my muscles up to what they need to be and maybe a little more. It just takes time 🙂

As far as my weight, it’s as I expected. I knew I would not lose weight this week because of changing things a bit. Am I disappointed? Not at the moment because I know it will come off as I am doing my new exercises and I will start to look better as well.

Fit Challenge Week 7

Standard

Here is to week 7!! I have stayed pretty much at the same weight as last week but the difference is I have started light strength training to couple with my Gazelle. When I was younger (geez that sounds like I am ancient), I used to do light weight lifting. Not only that but I used to help my dad in his tire shop to move tires, clean out the bays, and help load his truck…anything that my brother was not able to do I helped with. When I look back at my younger self I realize the one big thing that changed in my life was I no longer did as much strength training as I did when I was younger. I used lift dumbbells when I was not lifting tires :). It was a huge thing and I never realized how much. So in changing my lifestyle choices that include my eating and exercising, I am going to add some light strength training to my routine. I know adding this kind of exercise probably will not allow me to lose weight as quickly (muscle weighs more then fat) but I believe this is a better route to go especially as I am getting older. I need that extra protection in muscle mass to prevent major issues.

So here I am now. I am not excited about my weight but you know what I am not going to focus strictly on my number although it is important and I am going to lose the weight I want. I am going to focus instead on building my strength, endurance, and well being. Because my health is more important and the changes I make now will show the end results I want.
