Recipe Friday – Iranian Cotlet

Here is one of my favorite Iranian recipes. It is like a comfort food especially when you have some hot bread to go with it…Yum!! It is a  really easy recipe to make with almost any ground meat you have. I usually use beef but turkey can be substituted as well. Hope you enjoy 🙂

 

 

IRANIAN COTLET

Ingredients:

    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 1 pound of potatoes mashed ( can also substitute with instant mashed potatoes)
    • 1 large onion, ground
    • 2 eggs
    • salt
    • pepper
    • 2 tablespoon turmeric powder
    • garlic powder
    • 1/2 cup oil

Directions

  1. Place beef into large bowl
  2. Cut onion in half to make grinding easier
  3. Grind each half of onion into meat
  4. Mix together with hands 
  5. Add mashed potatoes to this mixture, mix well with hands 
  6. Crack two eggs into the mixture, again mixing well with your hands
  7. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and turmeric and mix in
  8. Make medium sized meatball like balls with meat mixture
  9. Pat out each ball in between the palms of your hands until you have small oval shaped patties (be careful not to make them so thin that they will break apart)
  10. Place 1/2 cup of oil into deep frying pan
  11. On medium high heat, place patties into oil and cook until each side is golden brown 
  12. Remove patties and place into baking dish
  13. Bake patties in oven set at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until patties are cooked all the way through (they should be crispy on the outside without being crunchy all the way through)
  14. Serve with hot bread
